These terms apply to your use of the La Vita Nova website and to any booking, workshop, event, class or venue hire you make with us. Please read them before booking. By using our site or making a booking, you agree to these terms.

La Vita Nova is a creative studio, gallery and event venue at 51a Grosvenor Street, South Yarra, Victoria 3141, Australia. In these terms, "La Vita Nova", "we", "us" and "our" refer to the operators of La Vita Nova. You can reach us at info@lavitanova.com.au.
You may use this website for lawful purposes and to learn about and book our spaces, events and programs. Prices, dates, availability and event details may change, and we may update or remove content at any time. We take care to keep information accurate but do not warrant that everything on the site is complete or current at all times.
Most of what we do is booked through our online booking system. When you book online the full amount is taken at that point and your time is held for you immediately, so there is nothing further to pay on the day. Anything sent to us by email is a request rather than a confirmed booking, and we will confirm the price, what is included and your timings in writing before it is locked in.
All prices are in Australian dollars. The price you see is the total amount payable. Styling, catering and other extras are available on request and are quoted separately.
What is included. Your written confirmation lists what comes with your booking, including any furniture, props or styling we are providing on the day. If something is not listed there, please assume it is not included and ask us before you book, so there is no confusion when you arrive.
Anything you book online. The full price shown is payable at the time you book, and your time is held as soon as that payment is taken. There is nothing left to settle on the day.
Anything we quote. Larger events, longer bookings and anything outside the standard options are quoted first. Where we quote, a deposit of 50% of the quoted fee confirms and holds your date and the balance is due on the day of your booking, unless we agree something different with you in writing. We confirm the quote with you before anything is charged.
A content creator can be added to a space hire or branding and portfolio session for $100 per booked hour. This service is currently available on Mondays, Saturdays and Sundays and is not booked on its own. If it is added during online booking, it is paid in full at checkout. If it is arranged afterwards, we will confirm the hours by email, assign a creator and invoice the add-on before your session.
The creator captures candid photo and video as the booking unfolds rather than directing or styling the session. Raw files are delivered on the day. Editing and colour grading are not included in the add-on and can be quoted separately.
Branding and portfolio sessions. Branding and portfolio sessions are a separate service and are not the same as the content creator add-on. Each package includes the studio, lighting and a set number of finished images, retouched and colour graded, as listed on the branding and portfolio sessions page. Hair and makeup are not included.
If your booking runs past the hours you have booked and the room is free, extra time on the day is charged at $150 an hour, billed in full hours. We will always tell you before the clock starts.
Tickets for some workshops, classes and events are sold through third-party platforms. Those bookings are also subject to the third party’s own terms, and their fees and refund rules may apply in addition to ours.
All cancellations and changes must be requested in writing to info@lavitanova.com.au, and take effect from the time we receive them. The scales below are our genuine pre-estimate of the loss we incur where a booked date cannot be re-let at short notice.
Space hire. Paid in full at the time of booking.
Branding and portfolio sessions. Paid in full at the time of booking. A session may be rescheduled once at no charge where you give us 48 hours notice or more.
Children’s workshops. These are paid in full at the time of booking.
Quoted bookings, including private events and markets. Quoted bookings are the only bookings to which a deposit applies. A deposit of 50% confirms and holds the date, and the balance is due on the day of the booking.
The scales above apply where you cancel or change a booking. They do not limit your rights where we have not delivered the service as promised. If we fail to supply the service, or fail to supply it with due care and skill, you are entitled to a remedy under the Australian Consumer Law irrespective of the notice given.
A booking may be moved twice. Beyond that we may treat a further change as a cancellation under the scales above.
Overtime, damage and additional cleaning may be charged after your booking. We will always confirm this with you before it is charged.
If we have to cancel or reschedule due to circumstances beyond our control, we will offer you a suitable alternative date or a full refund of amounts paid for the cancelled booking. Nothing in these terms limits any rights you have that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law, including your right to a remedy where a service is not delivered with due care and skill.
Please arrive on time and follow any reasonable directions from our team on the day. Some events have age requirements, capacity limits or materials that we will describe on the event page. We may refuse entry or ask someone to leave for unsafe, unlawful or disruptive behaviour.
Risk warning. Where a workshop, class or event involves a particular risk, for example tools, heat, ladders, solvents, kilns, movement or physical activity, we will set out that risk on the event page and again before you begin, so you know what is involved in that specific activity before you take part. Taking part is voluntary and you accept the risks described. If you have an injury, a health condition or anything else we should know about, please tell us before the session starts.
Children’s programs. Our children’s programs, including Masters in the Making and The Founder’s Studio, are designed for the age ranges shown on each program page. Before a child’s first session, a parent or guardian needs to complete our enrolment and consent form, which covers emergency contacts, allergies and medical needs, who is authorised to collect the child, photography consent, and these terms.
A parent or guardian is responsible for reading the program details, for telling us anything we need to know about their child, and for drop-off and collection at the agreed times. Children are supervised by our team throughout the session. Where a child needs to leave with someone other than the person who enrolled them, we need that in writing in advance. Everyone working with children at La Vita Nova holds a current Working with Children Check.
Access times are agreed as part of your booking. Where you book online, the time you choose is confirmed to you as soon as payment is taken. Larger bookings and anything we quote are confirmed by us in writing before they are locked in. Our online calendar runs from 8am to 7pm, seven days. Later evenings are available by request for private events: ask us and we will confirm the finish time in writing. Where a later finish is agreed, everyone including suppliers needs to be packed down and out by 11pm.
Load-in and pack-down sit inside your booked hours unless we have agreed otherwise in writing. We are on a residential street, so we ask that noise is kept down from 10pm and that music finishes with your booking.
When you hire the space, you agree to treat it and its contents with care and to keep within the agreed capacity (up to 40 seated or 80 standing) and hire times. The person who makes the booking is responsible for everyone who attends on the day, including guests, crew, suppliers and anyone they bring with them, and for any loss or damage beyond fair wear and tear caused during your booking, which may be charged to you. Please leave the space as you found it.
Your event, your responsibility. While your booking is running, you are responsible for supervising and managing your event, for the safety of everyone who attends, and for the conduct of your guests. That responsibility stays with you even where we help on the day. For private events and anything with guests, food or alcohol, we recommend you hold your own public liability insurance, and for larger events we may ask you to confirm that you have it.
Alcohol. We do not hold a liquor licence. Alcohol may be brought in for private, non ticketed events where it is not sold, and where you agree it in writing with us first. Alcohol must not be sold, and no charge, ticket price, donation or entry fee may include or cover alcohol, unless you hold the appropriate licence or permit yourself and give us a copy before your booking. You are responsible for the responsible service of alcohol at your event, for anyone under 18 who attends, and for meeting any conditions attached to a licence or permit you hold.
Security bond. For some bookings we may ask for a refundable security bond, payable before your hire begins. It is $200 for a studio hire and $500 for an event. Where a bond is held, we may deduct from it for excessive overtime, additional cleaning, or loss or damage caused during your booking. If we do, we will tell you within 2 days of the end of your booking what the costs are and what they are for, with evidence, and we will return the balance of the bond within 7 days. Where nothing is owed, the full bond comes back within 7 days. Where the amount owed is more than the bond, we will account to you for the balance and invoice you for it, payable within 14 days. If you disagree with an assessment, tell us within 7 days and we will get an independent quote before charging anything further. We do not deduct for fair wear and tear, and if you cancel, the bond is refunded in full provided nothing is owed.
Cleaning. A standard reset is included in your hire, so you do not pay a cleaning fee for normal use. Take your rubbish, food and drink with you, put furniture back where you found it, and leave the space as you found it. Where the space needs more than a standard reset, our cleaner is booked in at their minimum call out of three hours and a cleaning fee of $165 applies. Glitter, confetti, loose petals, sand and anything similar are not permitted anywhere in the space, and a cleaning fee of $300 applies if they are used, as they take considerably longer to clear. We will always tell you before anything is charged.
You are responsible for making sure your event, and anything you bring in such as suppliers, food, alcohol or equipment, complies with the law and any conditions we give you. We may set reasonable rules about access, load-in and noise.
Our events and spaces are sometimes photographed or filmed for our own records and promotion. If you would prefer not to be included, please let our team know and we will do our best to accommodate you.
Children. We do not photograph or publish images of a child without the written consent of a parent or guardian, given in advance. We ask for that consent on the enrolment form, separately for images we send privately to you and for images we may publish. Where we do not hold consent, we photograph the artwork and not the child. You can withdraw consent at any time by emailing info@lavitanova.com.au and we will remove the images from anywhere we control.
Where you provide us with images or content, you confirm you have the right to do so, and that you have any consents needed from the people in them.
The content on this website, including text, images, logos and the La Vita Nova name, is owned by us or used with permission, and may not be copied or used commercially without our consent. Work shown in the gallery remains the property of the artists.
Certain activities, including workshops and events, carry ordinary risks, and you take part voluntarily. We take reasonable care of the space, our equipment and the people in it.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, or for loss or damage to personal property arising from your use of the site, our spaces or our events, except where that loss or damage is caused by our negligence. Nothing in these terms excludes, restricts or modifies any consumer guarantee, right or remedy under the Australian Consumer Law that cannot lawfully be excluded. Where our liability can be limited, it is limited to resupplying the relevant service or paying the cost of doing so.
Your own property. Our insurance does not cover property belonging to other people while it is in our care. If you are bringing equipment, artwork, instruments, stock or anything else of value into the space, please insure it yourself.
We handle personal information in line with our Privacy Policy, which forms part of these terms.
These terms are governed by the laws of Victoria, Australia, and you and we submit to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Victoria.
We may update these terms from time to time. The version published on this page at the time you make a booking is the version that applies. Please check back for the latest version.
