La Vita Nova was built as more than a room to hire. It is an attempt to make something Melbourne is quietly missing: a home for artists, makers, models and creators, where a community gathers, shoots, shows and grows together.
Melbourne is full of talent and short on places for it to land. Studios are expensive, galleries can be hard to get into, and the spaces in between, where people meet, collaborate and are seen, are rare. We wanted to build one of those in-between places: part gallery, part studio, part venue, open to the people making things now.
A rotating wall for emerging artists. A studio that creators, models and photographers can shoot in properly. A calendar of suppers, workshops and openings that give people a reason to be in the same room. In time, a membership and a residency, so the community has a base, not just a booking. The point is not the events themselves, it is what grows around them.
Lately that has meant a steady stream of shoots in the space, from independent labels to models and creators building their next thing. A few of them are below.
If you are an artist, a maker, a host, or just someone who wants to be part of it, there is a way in. Show your work, run a workshop, come to a supper, or simply say hello. This is the beginning, and we are building it with the people who show up.
